We are incredibly proud to announce our collaboration with SOS Méditerranée, an internationally recognized maritime humanitarian organization dedicated to saving lives in the Mediterranean Sea. As an innovative startup, it is an honor to be working alongside such a vital and impactful organization in their mission to rescue individuals in distress at sea. This partnership exemplifies how innovative technology can contribute to humanitarian efforts and enhance real-time response capabilities in the most challenging environments.
Who is SOS Méditerranée?
SOS Méditerranée is a European humanitarian organization founded in 2015, with a primary mission to save lives at sea and provide assistance to migrants and refugees making perilous journeys across the Mediterranean. The organization operates Search & Rescue missions in the Mediterranean, where thousands of people attempt to cross in search of safety and a better life. Many of these individuals flee conflict, persecution, or poverty, risking their lives in overcrowded, unseaworthy boats.
SOS Méditerranée chartered vessel, the Ocean Viking, is central to their operations. This rescue ship is equipped to conduct rescue operations, with a complement of rescue boats, provide emergency medical care and essential supplies, such as water, food, and shelter, while transporting survivors to safety. The crews aboard Ocean Viking work tirelessly, often in dangerous and unpredictable conditions, to locate, assist, and bring to safety those in distress. However, due to the vast area of operation and the dangerous conditions at sea, time is always a critical factor in these rescue missions.
What does AzurIA bring to the table?
At AzurIA, we specialize in real-time detection and alert solutions, with Embedded AI. Our innovative technology, CamIA, will be integrated into the Ocean Viking to enhance the ship’s ability to identify people in distress at sea and enable faster, more accurate rescue operations. CamIA is a multi-spectral detection and alert system that processes images in real-time, integrated on a 3 axes gimbal, providing immediate insights into the situation and alerting rescue teams to distress signals, even by night or rough seas.
By embedding CamIA onboard Ocean Viking, our goal is to improve the early detection of individuals in distress or vessels in need of assistance. The technology is designed to detect distress situations automatically, using our advanced algorithms to detect signals of distress that might otherwise go unnoticed. This AI-driven solution is crucial providing an autonomous H24 watchtower.
How this collaboration could enhance SOS Méditerranée’s missions ?
Our partnership with SOS Méditerranée aims to increase the efficiency of their operations and enhance their ability to respond swiftly in high-pressure situations. Through real-time detection and alert systems, CamIA will help the Ocean Viking crew spot people in distress more accurately and much faster than before, allowing them to take action sooner and save more lives.
This partnership also aligns with our commitment to sustainability and eco-design, as CamIA has been developed with minimal energy consumption in mind, making it suitable for deployment in environments where power resources may be limited, such as on rescue ships or remote areas.
A shared vision for a better future
At AzurIA, we are driven by the belief that technology should serve humanity. Our collaboration with SOS Méditerranée is an example of how innovative solutions can play a critical role in solving real-world challenges. With every mission we help enhance, our commitment to providing life-saving technology to those in need, grows stronger.
By joining forces with SOS Méditerranée, we aim to make a tangible difference in the safety and wellbeing of people attempting to cross the Mediterranean. The combination of our AI technology and humanitarian action is a powerful tool that can help save lives and reduce the risk of tragedy at sea.
Together, we hope to reduce the number of lives lost at sea and offer hope to those who are fleeing violence and despair.
